December 1-7 is officially known as National Handwashing Awareness Week. While handwashing seems like an easy task to figure out, CBS News reported that 95% of people who wash their hands are doing it wrong. You are probably thinking “there’s not a wrong way to wash your hands.” But unfortunately you’d be wrong!

“The ‘right way to wash your hands’ is to wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold) and apply soap. Rub them together to make a lather while scrubbing them well, making sure you get the backs of the hands, between the fingers and under the nails. Keep this up for 20 seconds — the CDC recommends singing the “Happy Birthday” song twice — and after, rinse under running water, before drying with a clean towel or air dryer.” (CBS News)

To be extra cautious, we recommend turning off the faucet and opening the bathroom door with a clean towel, as many germs can live on faucets and door handles.

In honor of National Handwashing Awareness Week, please make a commitment to wash your hands correctly each and every time! Check out the infographic below for more statistics on handwashing.
