Habits for a Healthy Heart!

February has been designated as American Heart Month to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the U.S., with approximately 800,000 deaths annually.

There are many simple things you can do to improve your heart and your health. Check out the information below for habits for a healthy heart!

Adults should aim to get at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week. Instead of sitting down on the couch after dinner, go for a 30 minute walk each day instead. You’ll have 150 minutes of exercise done in no time!

Quit smoking.

When you quit smoking, you not only lower your chances of heart disease, but you lower your risk of cancer and many other health problems.

Visit your doctor regularly.

Even if you are healthy, you should still visit your doctor regularly. Annual check ups are important because they can help spot problems before they become serious. Don’t have a doctor? We can help. Schedule an appointment at a HealthNet health center near you.

Eat a healthy diet.

Eating a balanced diet of fruits and vegetables is very important for our health. Instead of choosing pizza and junk food, grab an apple or carrots instead! HealthNet has a dietitian who can help you with healthy eating. Schedule a free appointment at the HealthNet health center near you!
